The langley (Ly) is a unit of energy distribution over an area (also called "density of heat"〔). It is used to measure solar radiation (or insolation). The unit was named after Samuel Pierpont Langley (1834-1906) in 1947. ==Definition== One langley is *1 thermochemical calorie per square centimetre, i. e. *41840 J/m² (joules per square metre), *ca. 11.622 watt-hours per square metre.〔(Solar Energy at Race Rocks )〕
